Gary Sheares

Program Director

Gary Sheares, also a native Brooklynite, caught the coaching bug at a very young age. After graduating from Tilden H.S., where he was a varsity star for three years, Coach G., as he is known throughout Brooklyn, saw a need in his Bedford-Stuyvesant community to help children at risk. He was an assistant coach for the legendary, Gil Reynolds for the Vanguard Oilers basketball program and is a master at teaching the fundamentals of basketball and applying them to life situations in a manner that children can relate to. He is commonly thought of as the finest developer of young talent in the borough of Brooklyn. In 2003, his 8th graders won the AAU Division II National Basketball Championship with a team comprised of players exclusively from Brooklyn. He has placed several players in high level Division 1 basketball programs and continues to mentor and coach young kids today. Coach Sheares is a community leader who is at the helm or the Brooklyn Ballers Classic, a Summer youth tourney in which over 20 teams with players from age 10-18 participate in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn in front of coaches offering scholarships to High School and college.

 Kenneth Sealey

Detective Kenneth Sealey much like all of the Brooklyn Ballers Coaches grew up in Brooklyn. He played AAU Basketball with Vanguard Oilers Basketball organization coached by Gil Reynolds. Later he played scholastically at Brooklyn powerhouse Bishop Loughlin in the early 1980’s. After graduating with honors from Bishop Loughlin HS, Coach Sealey enrolled in the U.S. Army where he was honorably discharged three years later. He is a decorated detective and has been with the NYPD for the past 20 years and relishes his role in helping the youth of his community and understand what it takes to become good citizens and good players. Coach Sealey’s patience and keen basketball knowledge have made him a favorite of student-athletes wherever he has coached.
